A Personal Sketch

My name is David York. I am working at my fourth vocation since I graduated secondary school in Canada.

I have worked as a Life and Casualty Insurance Underwiter (Head Office risk appraisal, Mutual of Omaha Canada) from which I transitioned to do a degree in Biology and Chemistry (Hon BSc., University of Waterloo), during and after which I worked as a reseach laboratory biochemist(Prof. Allan Mellors, University of Guelph). I then moved to Medicine (MD, University of Toronto, PGM Dalhousie U.) and worked as a clinician in Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine for 26 years. I also worked in Medical Administration off and on for years, during which time I acquired an MBA from Southern New Hampshire University (on campus program). I have retired from clinical and administrative medicine. I then decided to pursue work in Data Science (data analysis) since retirement from clinical medicine, and over this time I acquired the equivalent of a Baccalauriate Major in Applied Math and Statistics (University of North Carolina at Charlotte). I am in the process of completing a practicum to complete a Certificate in Data Science (Johns Hopkins University and Coursera).

I work with C++, R, SQL and Java, Javascript/HTML/CSS/PHP. I am moderately proficient using SAS/IML and I have programmed in Basic and Fortran in the past. I have used the Rockwell Arena simulation environment as well as Matlab/Octave/Scilab and somewhat less with Mathematica.

I write essays and copy, particularly on technical subjects.

My first interest is in scientific data analysis and modeling, especially of course clinical data. I am available for contract work as a freelance Data Analysis projects and Statistical Programming and Development in a Web environment and free standing (Linux and Windows environments)

Please browse my website and visit my project pages and see what I have been woking on.

My Educational transcripts with course details are available on request. Certificates related to most of my more informal studies are also available to those who are interested.

I am constantly seeking opportunities to apply my growing knowledge in data science, applied mathematics and statistics on a freelance or contract basis. I would welcome an opportunity to discuss how my many assets can be useful to you. You can see a more formal resume on this site, or see my full profile(an inclusive and up-to-date resume) on My LinkedIn.

Also I discuss at this site on my Services Offered pages that I tend to do contract freelance work, including statistical programming as well as technical and report writing services through Up-Work (formerly oDesk). See my Up-Work Profile

Thank you for taking the time to look at my experience, skills and interests. I would be pleased to explore how I can contribute to your projects. If you wish you can get in touch with me by way of any of the means on my contacts page.
